Omar Munoz

Floater Coach

Coach Munoz grew up in Passaic NJ and was a strong student athlete at Passaic HS. Munoz played soccer and volleyball during his four years. In soccer, he was the team co-captain his senior year. In volleyball, he was the team captain his junior and senior year. During his volleyball playing years, Munoz was selected All-Passaic County first team his junior and senior year, becoming only the third player from Passaic to be selected in consecutive seasons. Munoz finished his high school career with close to 700 kills.

Omar Munoz, was able to achieve one of the highest honors as a high school athlete. In June of 2010, Munoz was named to the All –Decade Honorable Mention team for North Jersey. Only 30 players were selected to this list of the elite, which was chosen from 10 years worth of volleyball athletes. (page 2)

Coach Omar Munoz started his coaching career as a volunteer coach for Passaic High School’s girls and boys volleyball programs in the fall of 2005. He volunteered with both programs for 5 years, only leaving, to take his first official coaching position at Passaic County Community College as an assistant in 2010. Omar then became the Head Coach at Frisch High School for the boys program in the spring of 2011 where his team finished second in their division in his first year. In the fall of 2011, Munoz return back to Passaic and officially coached the freshman girls volleyball team. Coach Munoz implemented assessment and video recording to help him develop skills for individual players throughout the season. Today, Coach Omar is in his second season at Passaic County Community College. He has taken over as the Head Coach where he’s implementing “aggressive volleyball.” Munoz looks to promote intensity, assertiveness, organized plays, playing with confidence, and most notably strives for the never ending push for victory.

Coach Munoz worked with the 17 Black in the innaugural season at RSV.  Munoz led his team to a medal finish in Pittsburg to close out the season.  Coach Munoz is excited for his second year with RSV and to start the 2013-2014 club season.

Munoz completed his education at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health.
